SUBJECT : VAPS and volume names being corrupted.
FYI # : 041790dl
DATE : April 16, 1990
OS VERSION : 2.15
REVISION : C
SHELL VERSION : N/A
GENERAL INFORMATION : Customers are seeing the volume name being
corrupted when the PSERVER.VAP is loaded. This is not just
limited to PSERVER. It has been seen when BTRIEVE is loaded.
PROBLEM : The scenario is difficult to explain but
the just of the problem is the volume name is being corrupted.
In my tests this only occurred when the volume name was exactly 6
characters in length. It didn't matter what the volume name was,
whether there were numbers before letters, etc.
SOLUTION : By decreasing or increasing the length of
volume name by one character the problem went away. For example;
if the volume name was ABCDEF by changing the name to ABCDE or
ABCDEFG the problem would to away. I know this sounds strange,
but in my tests this was the temporary solution.
COMMENTS (Optional) : The corrupted volume name seemed to show
itself on every other volume, when multiple volumes were present
and each volume name consisted on 6 characters. I only tested
2.15C so the problem could show up in other OS revs.
